Title | 1955 Vespa VL1 |
Body | I’m asking $8200 or best offer. That’s a lot, but it’s a unicorn: original paint, Colorado title in my name, everything works and running 1955 Vespa VL1. Located in Denver and the buyer will coordinate pick up or shipping. I recommend Denver James because he’s an expert and a good soul. I have extensive photos of the rebuild and happy to provide video or FaceTime as well as discussion via phone. A little over two years ago I was hit by a car while riding my bike. I’ve had three hip surgeries, avascular necrosis, and a total hip replacement. As a result my life has changed. This VL1 was a barnfind in Iowa and brought to Colorado around 2014. I finished the project in July 2023 and have ridden it 350 miles since. It cruises easily at 42 mph and I’ve topped it out at 56 mph. It starts on the second or third kick. VL1 production started in 1954 through 1955. The VL1 is significant as it was the first Vespa model sold with the Vespa badge in the US (Allstate was the only option until the VL1). It was faster as it introduced a two port 150cc motor and was an upgrade from the Allstate models (and more expensive), such as the front fork damper instead of the Allstate “pogo stick” and the first model to be sold with a speedometer as standard equipment. It’s a very rare model, as not many were sold in the US..and here we are 70 years later. I’m a fussy, detailed guy, so here’s a lot of information: Frame, speedo, badges, saddle: Disassembled to the last nut and bolt, considerable cleaning and preservation of the original paint. There was no body damage or rust to repair; though at some point someone dented the fender, so green Bondo can be seen and minor edge wear on the fender. Used 6 of the 9 original floor rails. 3 rails are Pascoli, all 9 have new rubber strips, all rails secured with hammered rivets, all end caps are originals. Original rear brake pedal. The original headlight unit with original Siem bezel and visor, new Siem headlight dome and bulb holder for a 12v bulb. Rare original MPH speedometer (metal faceplate and needle) shows 10,552 miles and was rebuilt by SpeedoKing with new lens, gasket, and bezel. Speedo works perfectly. Original chrome handlebar, stiletto levers, throttle tube and chrome switch perch, and Vespa logo handlebar switch. Pascoli rubber grips. Original enamel Piaggio legshield badge made by Paccagnini and original chrome Vespa emblem. Reproduction black “La Bachel” horn with correct thin rubber gasket. Original aluminum fender crest. Original carb door flap with US only “Piaggio made in Italy” badge, original fuel tap lever with new correct rubber. Original saddle frame, conical springs, and helmet/bag hook. Pascoli black saddle cover with an original Aquila saddle badge and a Pascoli seat grip. Original choke lever. Fuel cap has a new cork gasket and a new cork fuel tank gasket. The fuel tank has been cleaned and tumbled with ceramic beads - it’s very clean |
